I have been receiving emails that did not look like spam and had absolutely no connection with me for sometime. I always thought that the person sending the email is typing my email address in error. Turns out it is a feature provided by Gmail. They let people sign-up for email aliases with "." in them, though their email server doesn't really recognize it. Google refused to provide US government with aggregate data on what are users searching for and how easy is it for people to find child porn. Google is painting their refusal as some kind of privacy protection for the users, which I think is hogwash.

1. Does Google itself does not compute what its users are searching for? Google publishes top queries annually. I don't see why that is any different. I will be really surprised if Google internally does not dissect the aggregate search data with much more zeal to look at trends etc. 
2.  In this case, the stated governmental objective was to create laws to help reduce child porn. I think instead of saying "Google stood up for its user's privacy rights" I will say "Google refused to help US Govt fight child porn".

Scoble has been complaining for quite some time that Google stole Microsoft's evil :) . I think this validates  that :)
